Grand President Alice Weber Mansfield (Johnson),
Installation at Mississippi Beta
The installation ceremony took place at the Continuation Center at the University of Mississippi. It was held on March 10, 1962 after initiation. The initiation banquet was also held at the same location. The traditional beauty of the Old South formed the background for the installation theme, “Heritage of Pi Phi.” Women gave speeches and sang songs, and the presentation of the Model New Member Awards and Scholarship Bracelet also took place that evening.
Living at Mississippi Beta
The Mississippi Beta chapter house on Rebel Drive serves as a place where sisters gather and create amazing memories! With the tremendous growth of the chapter, there have been many renovations.
The Mississippi Beta house was first nicknamed the ‘Ski Lodge’ due to its type of architecture. This large three level house had a paneled chapter room, Chinese-inspired décor in the living room, a light, airy dining room, house director’s suite and a large patio used for cookouts. The chapter office doubled as a guest room and seventeen two-member rooms on the second and third floors housed the members.
Throughout the early 2000s, planning began for a complete remodel of the chapter house. This renovation included an exterior ‘face lift’ which brought a vision to life. Today, the members enjoy dinner in the dining room complete with a commercial kitchen prepared by amazing chefs, enjoying quality time and hanging out in the many date rooms and T.V. rooms, hosting weekly meetings in the chapter room, lounging on the patio and rocking in the rocking chairs on the two-story front porch. The house now sleeps 40 members plus the Mississippi Beta’s wonderful house mother.
