Game Night and Fraternity Day
Installation at Ontario Alpha
The local society Xi Tau was installed as the Ontario Alpha Chapter on December 11, 1908. It was Pi Phi’s first Canadian chapter. Installation activities took place in the home of charter member Edith Gordon. After the Initiation Ceremony, a meal was served during which Mrs. Davidson, wife of a University professor and patroness of the chapter, gave a toast.
The charter members included Ethelwyn Bradshaw, Geraldine Oakley, Muriel Oakley, Beatrice Bowbeer, Jean Fechnay, Bessie Cruickshank, Kathleen Ireland, Alma Anderson, Edith Gordon, Maude Zuern, Minnie Barry, Marguereta Chapman, Gladness Chapman, Jean McConnell and Jessie Starr. Grand President May Lansfield Keller, Maryland Alpha, installed the chapter.
In 2016, the chapter’s annual Game Night philanthropy raised $1,300 and collected 800 books, which were donated to the Children's Book Bank Toronto. At the 2016 event, there was a $5 all-you-can-eat event where the chapter served hot dogs, chili and cupcakes. The women also had exciting activities where guests could participate for $2 entry. Additionally, the chapter hosted an Instagram challenge rewarding other houses efforts to post pictures with their favorite books, their favorite sports and with Pi Phis! The event was a great success and many University of Toronto students and members of the Greek community attended. In 2016 the chapter also participated in Fraternity Day of Service where the Ontario chapters got together to celebrate literacy on Dr. Seuss'® birthday. The chapter wrapped and donated many boxes of books for First Book®. Ontario Alpha is dedicated to philanthropy, and is always excited to support their fellow sororities and fraternities on campus.
