Installation at Oregon Alpha
A local music group, Mu Phi Epsilon, was formed in 1915. The group officially became a chapter of Pi Beta Phi on October 29, 1915. The Initiation Ceremony took place at the chapter house. Several members of the Portland, Oregon, Alumnae Club were in attendance, including Iowa Alpha Louise “Lulu” Sawyers Linn, author of “Ring, Ching, Ching.” The next day, the installation banquet was held at the Hotel Osburn. The evening concluded back at the chapter house where charter members performed solos, played violin and sang Pi Phi songs.

Philanthropic Service
The chapter hosted the 20th Annual Pi Social in 2016 and more than 1,000 people attended. Pi Social is an all-you-can-eat pie and ice cream social hosted at the Pi Phi chapter house with a pie eating contest, pie a Pi Phi booth, face painting and entertainment provided by student musical groups. This philanthropy event benefiting literacy is highly anticipated by members of the community and raised an estimated $20,000 in 2016! Recently Pi Social hosted a special hour at the start of the event to welcome community members and kids involved with Champions are Readers®, from Edison Elementary School. Pi Beta Phi also invited families to Pi Social, which was a great way to open up the Pi Phi house to the community and continue to strengthen the relationship with Edison Elementary School.
