Installing Officer:
Grand President May Lansfield Keller, Maryland Alpha
Installation at Oregon Beta
A local group, Delta Mu, was formed in 1915. A petition was presented at the 1915 Berkeley Convention and was approved. The group officially became a chapter of Pi Beta Phi on July 23, 1917. On the morning of July 23, 1917, busy Pi Phis labored at Verna Weaver's and Gertrude Blackmar's home where the initiation was to take place, while the Pledging Ceremony was happening at the home of Iowa Alpha Louise Sawyers Linn's. By 2:30 p.m., all was ready and the beautiful Initiation Ceremony began. It was witnessed by Pi Phis from all over the country and was followed by a Cookie Shine where more than 60 Pi Phis toasted the Pi Phi goat and the Oregon Beta Chapter. After the Cookie Shine, Grand President May Lansfield Keller, Maryland Alpha, installed the chapter, assisted by Grand Vice President Nina Harris Allen, Illinois Beta. Immediately after the ceremony, the two ran to the train station to install California Gamma and then Arizona Alpha.
The charter was relinquished in 2006.
