Grand President Carolyn Helman Lichtenberg,
Angels in the Outfield and Pi Burger Phri
Installation at Pennsylvania Theta
The chapter was installed on February 10, 1990. The installation weekend was February 9–11, 1990. The preparatory service took place at the Stouffer’s Inn. Afterward, a Cookie Shine took place. The actual installation took place at the home of Terry Kirkwood. The installation banquet was held that night at the Stouffer’s Inn. The room was aglow with candlelight and centerpieces were handmade golden angels. Each guest received a small notepad with an angel imprint. Women representing 45 different Pi Phi chapters were in attendance for the evening. Ring Ching, Ching was sung, and there was wonderful ceremony held in honor of the founders.
Living at Pennsylvania Theta
The chapter does not have a chapter house, but the sisters make living arrangements special in so many other ways. Almost all of sisters live with each other on campus, sharing rooms in the Quad and apartments on West Campus. They proudly display neon paper letters in windows and arrangements are made to live in the same buildings or hallways. This is done to facilitate chapter activities such as movie night. Senior year, most sisters find houses or apartments off campus and live together.
The chapter was recently given old chapter history scrapbooks from the 1990s and the 1980s that an alumna had in her home, and also have many old yearbooks and composites from past years. These particular scrapbooks were accidentally taken home by this alumna and were only just rediscovered in her home while cleaning a few weeks ago.
Panhellenic Groups on Campus
Alpha Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Chi Omega, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi
The chapter has two main philanthropy events, one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall event is Angels in the Outfield in which teams from other organizations on campus compete in a wiffle ball tournament. The chapter provides food at the event and literacy activities to keep the players entertained as they wait to compete. The sisters stand on the sidelines cheering on the different teams. In the spring the chapter tends to do different events. Recently, the philanthropy event was Pi Burger Phri. The chapter had sisters cooking burgers outside while other sisters served the food inside to people and others socialized with people as they ate.
