Grand Vice President Alumnae Helen Boucher Dix, Ohio Beta
Installation at West Virginia Gamma
West Virginia Gamma became the 112th Pi Beta Phi chapter. There were 28 collegiate women and six alumnae who were initiated into the chapter on March 2, 1968. Grand Vice President Alumnae Helen Boucher Dix, Ohio Beta, installed the chapter.
The chapter was founded as a local group, Pi Alpha Theta in 1965. A colony was established in 1967, and all activities were supervised by Grand Secretary and Director of Extension Fay Martin Gross. Several women supported Fay, including a young Sarah Ruth "Sis" Mullis, South Carolina Alpha. The chapter was also supported by the alumnae in western Pennsylvania, including the Pittsburgh-South Hills Alumnae Club.
A pre-initiation ceremony was held the Friday before installation and officially began the weekend program. Initiates and guests also enjoyed a Cookie Shine and were entertained by Wheeling alumnae in the Bethany Faculty Lounge with traditional Pi Phi songs. The presentation of "Seven Gifts to Pi Beta Phi" was dramatized by that of an eighth gift. In the ceremony, a wine and blue velvet cushion was passed, on which each New Member placed her New Member pin.
The charter was relinquished in 1981.
