The History of the Athens Area Alumnae Club
The Athens Area Alumnae Club was founded by a small group of local alumnae through a few key interactions. Kelly Lane was approached at a Pi Beta Phi Foundation brunch by Susan Bruch who connected her with Taylor Smith. Within weeks, the three women had come together to begin the process of chartering the club. Taylor served as the club’s first President, and Kelly served as the second. In the first year, the club was able to establish several community relationships and bond together as a group.
Philanthropic Service
The club’s main philanthropic event is bringing books to Alps Road Elementary school. These books are distributed to the students by club members, and then the students and volunteers celebrate Dr. Seuss’® birthday and participate in some activities.
